Underground Crafter

Needlecrafts, handmade creativity, and other good stuff

My favorite local yarn shop, Knitty City, celebrated their sixth anniversary with a sale (and some great red velvet cake) on Saturday.  I had some birthday money burning a hole in my pocket, so I decided to stop by.  I am trying to Surmount the Stash in 2012, and I’m sure to shop at Vogue Knitting Live next weekend, so I avoided the temptation of yarn completely.  (In case you are wondering how I was able to do that, it was simple.  I just imagined I was one of those tortured looking Central Park carriage horses and I was wearing blinders that only allowed me to see the notions and the bookshelves.)

I bought a set of yarn bobbins for a current project.

Then I stepped back and pretended, just for a moment, that my friends and family were crocheters and knitters.  Of course, they would want me to be comfortable, extend my design knowledge, and make more projects for myself.  And with those guidelines in my mind, I picked out the gifts they would want to buy for me.  (Not such a stretch, since it was their money!)

The Tulip Etimo Crochet Hooks Set includes eight of my favorite comfort crochet hooks, a small pair of scissors, two yarn needles, and a small ruler.  The case can be used for storage and for toting around with a project.

Big Girl Knits: 25 Big, Bold Projects Shaped for Real Women with Real Curves by Jillian Moreno and Amy R. Singer has been on my wishlist for a while, since I learned that Wendy Shanker wrote the foreword.  While I don’t imagine myself knitting up a sweater anytime soon, I am looking forward to reading the “What You Need To Know” section.

Who knows?  Maybe there is a Mimosa in my future.

What would your family buy for you from the yarn shop if they knew what to buy?

  1. I don’t know what my family would buy for me – hopefully they might ask. I can tell you though, that you’re going to LOVE those Etimo hooks. I’ve had my set for quite some time now and use them almost exclusively. To me they are the ultimate in crochet hooks.

  2. I’m not sure. Husband asked if I wanted anything yarny for Christmas and I said no. I’d probably buy a nice project back or two. Or extra KP cords and stitch markers.

    I miss Knitty City!

  3. I agree, Dorothy, they are so comfy! I already had a few but to have the whole set is pretty darned cool.

  4. Extra cords sound good, Vanessa. I don’t have any interchangeables for knitting, but I could use those for my Denise crochet set.
