Beginner Classes

Whether you are looking for a portable hobby, joining the “handmade revolution” or just trying to save some money on holiday gifts, Underground Crafter can teach you to crochet! 
Registration is open for Tunisian (Afghan Crochet Basics) and Decoding Patterns.  Download the flier or read the descriptions below.  You can register online or download the registration form.

  • Decoding Patterns

    If you have the basic crochet stitches down but just can't seem to understand patterns, this class is for you. This hands-on refresher class will review the basics of written, diagrammed, and charted crochet patterns. Tips for getting the right gauge and pattern troubleshooting will be included.

    When: Saturday, March 20, 2010 from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

    Where: University Settlement's Houston Street Center, 273 Bowery near the corner of Houston Street, New York, NY

    Register by Saturday, March 6, 2010.  Registration fee includes all handouts.  Students will need to supply their own materials, including yarn and hooks.

  • Tunisian (Afghan) Crochet Basics

    Tunisian crochet makes a beautiful and thick yarn fabric which looks more like knitting than traditional crochet. Learn the basics of Tunisian crochet including forming three different stitches, how to reduce the curl, and basic pattern reading and trouble shooting. This class is perfect for crochet newbies and experienced knitters/crocheters who are new to Tunisian crochet.

    When: Saturday, March 27, 2010 from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The fine print:

1) Pre-registration with payment is required by the registration deadline. 

2) Minimum class size is 6 students.  Maximum size is 12 students

3) There are no make up classes.  Students who cancel by the registration deadline receive a full refund.  Students who cancel by the Monday after the registration deadline will receive a credit towards another class by December 31, 2010.  No refund or credit applies for student cancellation after the Tuesday before the class.

4) Classes cancelled by instructor (due to extreme weather, severe illness, or under registration) are fully refundable.  Students can also choose to apply refund as a credit to a future class.
